Ministerial Visit to Tams Loup Quarry Highlights Importance of Scottish Aggregates Sector

Tillicoultry Quarries was pleased to welcome Ivan McKee MSP, Minister for Public Finance, to Tams Loup Quarry on 18th February. The visit was organised through the Mineral Products Association (MPA) Scotland, of which Tillicoultry Quarries is a member, and was also attended by officials from the Scottish Government and Revenue Scotland.

The visit provided an important opportunity for the Minister to engage directly with industry representatives ahead of the introduction of the Scottish Aggregates Tax (SAT) in April this year. Discussions enabled Tillicoultry Quarries and MPA Scotland to outline key industry perspectives, including concerns around any potential future increases to the current tax rate, cross-border policy considerations and the need to address compliance challenges.

Tams Loup Quarry provided the ideal setting for the visit, allowing the Minister to see first-hand the work being undertaken by Tillicoultry Quarries and the wider aggregates sector to maximise the use of recycled materials. The visit also gave the sector an opportunity to highlight the practical challenges around recycled aggregate, including limitations in availability and suitability for certain construction applications.

Tillicoultry Quarries welcomed the opportunity to host the visit and to contribute to constructive discussions on the future of the aggregates sector in Scotland. Continued engagement between government and industry will be essential to ensure policy supports both sustainable practices and the delivery of vital infrastructure and construction projects across the country.
