Working with Schools to Inspire Future Generations

At Tillicoultry Quarries, we’re proud to play an active role in our local communities — and that includes helping young people understand the exciting career opportunities available in the aggregates industry. Through school visits, careers fairs, and community engagement, we aim to inspire the next generation.

School Visits and Educational Engagement

Our team regularly visit primary and secondary schools to introduce them to what we do and speak to pupils interested in pursuing a career in the aggregates sector and highlight all of the rewarding pathways available.

We also welcome schools to visit our sites across Scotland and England. These visits offer pupils a first-hand look at how our materials are extracted, processed, and used in building the roads, schools, and infrastructure they see every day.

During a visit, young people can:

  • Learn about the science and technology behind quarrying.
  • Discover how we manage our sites safely and sustainably.
  • Meet members of our team and hear about their career journeys.

Our goal is to make learning about aggregates interactive and inspiring, showing that there’s much more to quarrying than meets the eye.

Careers Fairs and Future Opportunities

We attend careers fairs and community events throughout the year to talk directly with students, parents, and teachers.

Our team members share insights into the wide range of roles at Tillicoultry Quarries — from plant operators and HGV drivers to environmental officers, engineers, and business professionals.

We believe in investing in people and developing skills that last a lifetime. By engaging with young people early, we can help them see how rewarding and diverse a career in our industry can be

Staying Safe: Why Quarries Are Not Playgrounds

While we’re always happy to show students our sites safely during supervised visits, it’s vital to remember that quarries are not safe places to explore. Trespassing on quarry sites can be extremely dangerous. Steep drops, deep water, and heavy machinery pose serious risks — even when a site looks quiet or unused.

We work closely with local schools and communities to raise awareness of these dangers and to encourage everyone to stay safe by keeping out of quarries unless part of an organised visit.

The safety of our communities is always our top priority, and we regularly visit schools near our sites to educate young people on the dangers of entering quarries unsupervised.
